Fishery Research Institutions in China
There are over 120 fishery research institutes at or above prefecture level with about 5.5 thousand
research workers in China according to the statistics in early 1990. The research institutes at the
national level are distributed to several ministries in their special interests. Generally, the
institutes in the Ministry of Agriculture mainly focus on the researches on applied technologies to
promote national fishery production, while others pay more attention to the basic science or their
special interests. Fishery research institutes in various provinces contribute especially to their
local fishery development.
