Videos
Original cataloging:
Use AACR2, LCRI, LCSH, MARC (OCLC) standards. Ensure sure that
your record includes:
007
440 OR 490 1 _ + 830 _0 (Do not use indicators for “series not traced”)
500 (source of the title proper if not taken from the chief source
of information - screen)
508 credits, including narrator (voice) 511 is obsolete for the credits
520 (summary) few short sentences in neutral form (do not comment),
example,”Presents the
Flower Garden banks in the Gulf of Mexico...)
For the main entry, added entry, series and subject entries follow the
LC authority available on
OCLC authority database. If there is no authority for heading to be
used, follow the rules,
establish the heading and notify the project investigator about the
new heading being used.
Highlight the newly established heading in a printed copy of the saved
record.
Copy cataloging:
Upgrade the matching records to the standards specified above. Use appropriate
punctuation.
Supply the copy record with all missing fields. Consult the video material
if necessary.
For both original and copy cataloging consult the NOAA Central Library
online catalog for
the availability of a newly assigned call number (Browse-call number)
In subject area use only the Library of Congress authorized subject
headings for both original
and copy cataloging. Always keep in your mind the Library users (scientists
and researchers in
atmospheric, oceanographic and fishery sciences)
Correct all revised records.
