Recataloging

Special cataloging/processing situations :

Recataloging documents

Recataloging a document usually is prompted by the need either to:

    1. reclassify the work into the LCC scheme from another scheme in order to make a single, cohesive
collection of NCL's several heritage collections; or,

    2. create or adapt an OCLC record to replace a locally-created, non-consortium record.
Locally-created records are apparent by the appearance of "OLA" in the MARC 001 field.

If recataloging a document for which an OCLC record will be adapted and re-exported (rather than edited directly in Sirsi):

Delete the Sirsi record.  In OCLC, edit the record and save as usual, but write "Export only" on the cataloging production workform so that a lesser charge will be incurred for the download from OCLC to the local catalog.

If recataloging a document for which a locally-produced record exists in Sirsi:

Delete the Sirsi record that contains "OLA" in MARC 001; then create or adapt a record in OCLC.
