Special cataloging/processing situations:
Bound with
When documents that were not published together are bound together,
create local notes to show what is bound with what. Do not create analytical
entries in MARC 79x fields.
For title "A" that is bound with titles "B" and "C":
Title A
090 call no. A
245 __ Title A.
590 __ SILVER SPRING: Bound with: Title B and Title C.
949 $i Actual bar code that is attached
to bound volume
Title B*
090 call no. A
245 __ Title B.
590 __ SILVER SPRING: Bound with: Title A.
949 $i System-generated bar code number
Title C*
090 call no. A
245 __ Title C.
590 __ SILVER SPRING: Bound with: Title A.
949 $i System-generated bar code number
* In local notes for titles other than the first title, refer only to
the first title with which the others are bound. The records for
titles other than the first title also reflect the call number of the first
title in their MARC 090 fields.
Do not trace more than ten titles in local notes. If more than ten titles
are bound together, then create a local note such as:
590 __ SILVER SPRING: Bound with other related titles.
Another recurrent example in the NCL catalog for multiple copies bound
together is:
590 __ SILVER SPRING: C.1 bound with
other issues in series. For holdings see series record.
When other copy designations are
indicated in any "bound with" statement in a MARC 590-Local Note field,
follow examples given in: Special
cataloging/processing situations : Copy designations.
Examples of reciprocal "bound with" local notes:
