Special cataloging/processing situations: Local practices for barcodes MARC 949 |i reflects barcode numbers for all items cataloged. If the cataloger has not applied a barcode to an item, then the Sirsi Unicorn (i.e., local) system will supply a faux barcode number. Apply barcodes to all documents except for the following types: Journals
Barcodes and bound volumes The actual bar code that is attached to a bound volume is reflected in the MARC 949 |i field for only the first document contained within bound volume. MARC 949 |i fields for the remaining documents in a bound volume reflect system-generated barcode numbers. Caveat: Recall that the call numbers for titles other than the
first title in a bound volume reflect the call number of the first title.
Therefore, for titles other than the first title in a bound volume, the
call numbers will be the same as the one for the first title, but the barcode
numbers will be different for each. See also: Special
