MARC fields - Local practices : MARC 790 - Local Added Entry -Personal Name Scope The 790 field contains a personal name that is traced for a reason of importance to the local collection that is not otherwise addressed in cataloging rules. The personal name represented in the 790 may or may not be controlled by an authority record. NCL's primary use of the 790 field is to trace the names of donors to the collection. Subfields (non-comprehensive treatment) |a Personal name. Trace the names of major donors in a MARC 790 field in each catalog record for each donated document. Major donors for the NCL collection include: 790 1_ Heezen, Bruce C.
Locally added personal name entries typically are legitimated by general or local notes that identify the donor.
