590 - Local Note

Scope

Field 590 contains notes applicable only to the local library. This is the place for notes on copy specific characteristics, notes about retention or location policies for the title, or other locally-defined practices.

The 590 note appears in the OCLC archive record and subsequent iterations of that record (in NOAALINC, e.g.), but will not appear in the OCLC master record.

Both indicators are blank.

Note possibilities for subfield A

This section lists various local notes that have been used in bibliographic records at the NOAA Central Library. These notes appear only in NOAA's MARC record. They do not appear in the OCLC master record.

Enter the prefix "SILVER SPRING:" before each note so that patrons can identify these notes on NOAALINC as referring only to the NOAA Central Library. [e.g., 590 SILVER SPRING: Library retains latest edition only].

Each library in the NOAA system will have its own location represented in its local notes.

Latest issue only in Reference.
